What are sew-in hair extensions and who are they best for?
Sew-in extensions (also called weft extensions) are sewn into a beaded row foundation. They are ideal for clients who want maximum volume and fullness.
What are V-light hair extensions?
V-light hair extensions are an advanced method designed for very fine or thinning hair, especially around the hairline. They use a lightweight bonding technique to create invisible volume where traditional extensions cannot.
What are keratin tip hair extensions and are they worth it?
Keratin tip hair extensions are individual strands bonded to your natural hair using keratin. They offer the most natural movement and long-lasting results, making them ideal for clients who want a seamless, luxury finish.
What is the difference between keratin tip and tape-in extensions?
Keratin tip extensions are bonded strand-by-strand for a more natural look and longer wear, while tape-in extensions are applied in panels for faster installation and easier maintenance. Both can look beautiful when customized properly.
How can I book an appointment?

Which hair extension method looks the most natural?
Keratin tip (k-tip) and V-light extensions are considered the most natural-looking because they mimic how hair grows directly from the scalp.
How do I choose between keratin tip, tape-in, sew-in, or V-light extensions?
The best method depends on your:
- Hair density
- Lifestyle
- Desired volume
- Maintenance preference
A professional consultation ensures the perfect match for your hair goals.
How long do extensions last?
Extensions typically last 3 to 4 months with proper care, hair can be reused and with sew in hair extensions, the weft can be tighten / push up.
How often do tape-in extensions need maintenance?
Tape-in extensions usually require maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks, where they are removed and reinstalled closer to the scalp.
Are sew-in extensions damaging to your hair?
When installed correctly by an experienced stylist, sew-in extensions are the safest. Proper tension and placement are key to maintaining healthy natural hair.
What Our Clients Say
Real reviews from real clients

The entire salon experience was professional, welcoming, and luxurious from start to finish. Everything about this place is done with care and expertise. I honestly can’t say enough good things about Nielsen J Salon.
I highly recommend Nelson and the Nielsen J team to anyone who wants a truly magical hair day ✨

I came to this salon for K-tip extensions because they advertise specializing in fine and thin hair. I paid around $1,500 for the initial install. Unfortunately, after installation, the hair quality was not what was represented. After just one wash and light heat styling, the extensions developed a strong chemical odor and behaved very differently from my own human hair clip-ins. Some strands even melted during a burn test, indicating inconsistent hair quality.
The salon offered to remove the extensions and reinstall a new batch of hair. I was charged an additional price difference for what was described as higher-quality hair. During my original consultation, however, I was never given options regarding hair quality or informed that different tiers existed. The new extensions were the quality I had expected initially — they looked great, and the removal of the first batch was quick and painless, with no immediate hair loss noticed.
About one to two weeks into having the new extensions, one K-tip fell out and my natural hair came out with it. I contacted the salon and was told this was normal and likely due to brushing. I was offered a reinstall, but I decided not to proceed. After losing three out of the 85 installed K-tips, I chose to have all of them removed.
When the extensions were removed after about 10 weeks, I experienced significant hair loss and a noticeable reduction in ponytail thickness. During removal, I was told comments such as “it’s going to feel like you have no hair, but you do,” and “see, you still have hair,” which felt dismissive given the amount of hair I was losing. Roughly half of the removal felt easy and painless, but the other half involved a lot of tugging and pulling that felt like my hair was being ripped out. As this was my first time having extensions, I didn’t realize at the time that this wasn’t normal.
I was allowed to keep the extensions to potentially reuse later, and upon examining them, many of the K-tips still had my natural hair trapped in them. The density change was immediate and extremely distressing.
To their credit, the owner did personally step in, acknowledged that the original hair quality was unacceptable, and was responsive and willing to redo the install. I appreciate that accountability and professionalism.
That said, based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone with fine, thin, or thyroid-related hair conditions to think very carefully before choosing K-tip extensions, even at a high-end salon. I believe the K-tips were too heavy for my fine hair, and that my hair could not tolerate the method or the removal process, resulting in significant hair loss.
I wish during my consultation that I had been advised against this method after my hair was examined. I went into the consultation expressing fear of hair damage and explaining that my hair had recently been cut too short, which is why I was considering extensions — but I was very concerned about long-term damage. I went into removal believing my hair would be longer and healthier afterward. Instead, I lost nearly half the hair I walked in with and felt more self-conscious than before. During removal it’s clear the k-tips were not fully dissolved and the stylist ripped them out with my hair still attached resulting in multiple bald spots all over my head. I’m extremely disappointed about the damage this salon caused to my hair.
I was previously an avid clip-in user and had switched to K-tips in hopes of being gentler on my hair. After this experience, I didn’t even feel like my hair could support clip-ins anymore.
All in all, I paid close to $2,000 and lost a significant amount of hair when I already had limited density to begin with. I’m sharing this not out of malice, but to help others make an informed decision.
